Next Stop: Travel Simulation with LED Virtual Production
The Last Bus (Netflix Series) in partnership with Treehouse Digital - Film & TV
From the start, this project was going to be tough to deliver. From limited budget to a venue with no weight loading, the team were able to look through the problems and offer solutions along the way. How can we film a bus, during COVID, and it be cost effective and a delight to work with?

Producer, Adam Mosse says:
Shooting on a bus is incredibly difficult. By filming this (on VP), what you see on the camera is what you are getting, and it’s done. For us, it’s just a win win.
How we created the set...
Blending our state-of-the-art mobile LED virtual production facility using our ROE Black Onyx 2 matched with the Brompton SX-40 and driven by our disguise media servers. The team took the limited budget into mind, and instead of making the project fit a large volume, the volume was designed to fit the project. We were able to utilise filming plates to simulate travel here in the UK.
Exec Producer, Jesse Cleverly says:
It’s been unbelievable, actually, I don’t think, in hindsight, we could have shot the show without it (Travel Sim on LED).
Delivering a successful project...
The team decided to use a smaller wall (3mx9.5m and 3mx7m), but put everything on a lift system and moved the wall to the angle of the shots to alleviate the necessity of a massive screen. This was, again, in a venue that wasn’t weight loaded in the roof and a ground system had to be delivered that could raise and lower the screen as needed. All on budget and in minimal time.
Equipment used:
- ROE Black Onyx 2
- Brompton SX40 4K HDR
- Disguise Media Server
